AGAPE Skills Development is a community co-operative organizer and training provider to small-scale cooperatives in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.
In August 2005 the Co-operatives Development Act was passed in South Africa laying the foundation for an enabling environment for cooperative development.
Co-operatives are seen to be a key vehicle for building local economies and sustainable development initiatives in communities. African Outreach received funding for an organisational development intervention to strengthen the organisational capacity of Agape Skills Development.
The intervention included strengthening governance, strategy development and building a membership structure. Agape also took steps towards becoming a 'co-operative of co-operatives'. Project activities included an organisational assessment, strategic planning and an organisational development process.
